Avengers: Infinity War (sort of spoiler free) review

Infinite. Sh*t. Goes. Down. “Thanos demands our silence”. And quite rightly. All reviewers were told to keep spoilers to a minimum so that everyone can enjoy the film’s shocks, plot twists and NON STOP ACTION. So this is a spoiler free review. Honest. Now, I’m a huge Marvel fan so I’ll try not to gush too much, but for those not married to the Marvel Cinematic universe, permit me a recap: The big purple bad guy is Thanos (a mo-cap Josh Brolin). Thanos is a mad Titan, seeker of the Infinity Stones, and has a “chin like balls” (thanks Star-Lord –…

Spoiler Free Things I learnt from the Avengers: Infinity War London Fan Event.

Directors the Russo Brothers have kept a small crowd of fans wanting MORE after assembling a selection of Avengers and showing 20 whole minutes of Avengers: Infinity War last night at the new and revamped Television Centre – and the reaction was electric. The cast gathered was just a handful of the enormous ensemble: Paul Bettany (The Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Sebastian Stan (Winter Solider), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Letitia Wright (Shuri) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange). Along with the movie’s directors, Anthony and Joe Russo, the cast attempted to answer some questions that did not give…

Black Panther (spoiler free) review: The King is in.

“So this is a sequel to Pink Panther, right?” said my soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend, trying to be funny. I sighed. For those of you after the further adventures of Inspector Clouseau, you may be a bit disappointed here. But for fans of great superhero action films – and easy routes into the sprawling Marvel Cinematic Universe – then Black Panther is your boy. I’ll admit upfront that I’ve not read many Black Panther comics, but as usual with Marvel movies, that’s not an issue. Like with Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel have taken a lesser-known comic and created a hugely…

I met Chris Pratt (oh and I saw GotG: Vol 2)

I MET CHRIS FREAKIN’ PRATT, YOU GUYS. But more on that, in a mo. When the first instalment of Guardians of the Galaxy came out, it really took me by surprise. I remember heading into the cinema thinking, “Oh man, I am not going to enjoy this”. I had no idea what this group of seemingly C-list Marvel galactic characters were really about. Sure, I knew about the Kree, Nova and the Skrulls through some of the bigger Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four cross over stories in the comic books, but the Guardians really did pass me by. I know I am…

Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi.

That middle episode tension, echoes of nostalgia with twists of new tales and new characters that bind together a renewed excitement in a lasting franchise. ‘Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi’ truly delivers. The second instalment of a trilogy is always the most eventful. Our characters and indeed, world, is very much established so we can really get to work. The Empire Strikes Back works so well as an overall Act II for the original trilogy, and The Last Jedi does just that for this new period of Star Wars movies. This film was a sci-fi rollercoaster where narrative points…
