Getting wet with the London Otters.

Who knew rowing was difficult? Surely it’s just about sitting in a boat and sticking your oar in, right? Wrong. And it’s not an oar. It’s a blade. I learnt that, as well as a boat-load of other stuff when I hung out with the London Otters one sunny autumn Saturday morning. I’d been aware of the London Otters for some time. They have a great social media presence and cute outfits, which led me to feature them in an article for MTV Fit.  They’re the UK’s only LBGT rowing team and they’re super popular. Meet Me In St Louieeee

“Excuse me, do you have a lighter I could borrow?” says Dor, taking a cigarette out of a pack. “Sure!” replies a nice American lady. She eyes him, while handing him her lighter. “Say, where you boys from?” “London, London, England!” I felt necessary to say, as if she’d never bloody heard of London. I winced. 12 weeks to be a strong man?

Strength building workouts that make you slim down without cardio? Okay, sold. Fitness magazines and social media accounts are telling us how we can all get “PECS LIKE THESE NOW” and how to “TRIM DOWN FOR SUMMER IN 12 WEEKS” while posting inspiring pictures people like actors who are paid to get in shape for a role, or juicy fitness models who have seemingly unrealistic results for an everyday Joe.  The last few issues of a certain gents’ fitness magazine I’ve seen in my local Tesco Metro have had the words “GET BIG ARMS NOW” on the cover for the…

I met Chris Pratt (oh and I saw GotG: Vol 2)

I MET CHRIS FREAKIN’ PRATT, YOU GUYS. But more on that, in a mo. When the first instalment of Guardians of the Galaxy came out, it really took me by surprise. I remember heading into the cinema thinking, “Oh man, I am not going to enjoy this”. I had no idea what this group of seemingly C-list Marvel galactic characters were really about. Sure, I knew about the Kree, Nova and the Skrulls through some of the bigger Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four cross over stories in the comic books, but the Guardians really did pass me by. I know I am…

Mind over Matter

Finding fitness motivation can be hard. When I say motivation, I mean real “aimed and focused at YOU” motivation, not ‘gymspiration’ nor preachy slogans from health and fitness products (or beautiful Instagrammers that we hate to love and love to hate). But real motivation and drive that gets us up out of bed in the morning and in the correct mind set for exercise. I wanted to see if I can get pure motivation from myself, not from ‘looking like’ or wanting to appear like anyone else. I wanted to see if I could generate this positivity and will power…
