Getting wet with the London Otters.

Who knew rowing was difficult? Surely it’s just about sitting in a boat and sticking your oar in, right? Wrong. And it’s not an oar. It’s a blade. I learnt that, as well as a boat-load of other stuff when I hung out with the London Otters one sunny autumn Saturday morning. I’d been aware of the London Otters for some time. They have a great social media presence and cute outfits, which led me to feature them in an article for MTV Fit.  They’re the UK’s only LBGT rowing team and they’re super popular. Today I took progress pictures for online trainer Ben. It’s the fourth week of the program he has set us on so we’re half way. These pictures are cold and harsh. Like, no filter harsh. Yuck. BUT actually I was pleased scanning back to the previous weeks I saw how my body has changed and it’s quite amazing! My and BF Chris are trying to cut down on booze. It’s hard. It’s very hard. I’d become quite accustomed to a G&T or glass of wine with my dinner, but as we clanged down to the recycling bins a few weeks ago we decided that a bottle of gin a week is pretty near alcoholic tendencies.  The reflection of our rubber ring waists was also double motivation for this. Our new rule is to never drink at home. It can be done! And with our online trainer how can we fail at this amazing life changing decision!  We celebrated…

Meet Me In St Louieeee

“Excuse me, do you have a lighter I could borrow?” says Dor, taking a cigarette out of a pack. “Sure!” replies a nice American lady. She eyes him, while handing him her lighter. “Say, where you boys from?” “London, London, England!” I felt necessary to say, as if she’d never bloody heard of London. I winced. I felt so British. “London?! Then what the hell are you doing here in St Louis?!” Well, we had learnt something within minutes of arriving. The city wasn’t called St “Louieeee”, like the way we say in when we think of any Famous French…

I’ve just got back from America. BF Chris is boycotting the States until Trump is toppled, so when my friend Dor offered me a plus one on a press trip, I jumped at the chance! BF Chris said I didn’t have morals, but I like to think it’s more about appreciating a free lunch. And then some… Being gay, I was nervous about travelling to America in the current regime but I’ve always wanted to go back to the U.S. since I had an AMAZING time in New York with Beccy in 2012. On that particular trip, we were dancing…
